Updating Apt Repositories

leave a comment »

One of the first thing a fresh Ubuntu install needs, is freshly updated repositories. I ran this generator:
http://www.ubuntu-nl.org/source-o-matic/

It even documents how to retrieve keys for certain sources.

Make sure Synaptic and Add/Remove programs are set to check ALL repositories, not just the “free” or “supported” ones. While generally this is advised against for new users, sometimes you NEED STUFF and it’s just not available anywhere else.

For super new users, I recommend get automatix2. Here is the ever-reliable installation wiki: http://www.getautomatix.com/wiki/index.php?title=Installation
